Itinerary

September 9th/16th
We’ll pick you up in Portland, ME at 4PM and begin our journey to camp just outside Acadia National Park! Contact Adventure Bus for Portland pick up location.

September 10th/17th
Sand Beach will serve as our base for our first day in Acadia National Park. From here you have several hiking options. Take the leisurely Ocean Path Trail to hug the coastline and see the iconic pink Acadia cliffs up close. For more of a challenge, head up the Beehive Trail or Gorham Mountain for extensive views of the coastline and surrounding mountains. Or, for a great combo, you can do all three!

September 11th/18th
Discover Acadia’s Schoodic Peninsula today with some light hiking or biking. This lesser known section of the park is not to be missed! We’ll drive the one-way scenic loop, take in Schoodic Point, and a few short hikes for views of Mount Dessert Island and the rocky coast.

September 12th/19th
We’ll head to Southwest Harbor, or the “quiet side” of Acadia for some shorter coastal hiking on the Wonderland Trail and Ship Harbor trails. Later, hike up Acadia Mountain for stunning views of Somes Sound and the Cranberry Islands. Or, take a ferry out to Cranberry Island for the afternoon. We’ll end the day with sunset from the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the East Coast!

September 13th/20th
Experience Acadia by boat, bike or hiking today. Your choice! We’ll set you up with a boat tour, bike rental or kayaking tour. Acadia is home to dozens of miles of old Carriage roads perfect for biking. Kayaking around the Porcupine Islands offers views of Bar Harbor and Frenchmen’s Bay. Or, hop on the free park shuttle and take in another hike. There are still dozens more we could recommend! We’ll dine out tonight in one of the many fine restaurants in Bar Harbor.

September 14th/21st
In the morning we’ll head to the mid-coast area of Maine to Camden Hills State Park. Take in the views of Penobscot Harbor from Mt Battie which includes the village of Camden and on a clear day, Acadia! Visit Owl’s Head Lighthouse and walk the Rockland Breakwater, a unique stone jetty that juts out a mile into the Atlantic Ocean! We’ll camp in Camden Hills State Park near the ocean for the next two nights.

September 15th/22nd
It’s an early start today as we try and catch sunrise over Penobscott Bay right from our campground. Next a one hour ferry ride will take us to the truly unique Monhegan Island. Spend your day hiking, visiting galleries, or taking in the beautiful views of this enchanting island! We often see seals, porpoise, and lots of seabirds on our ferry ride.

September 16th
We will pack up in the morning and head back to Portland, ME arriving at about 11AM.

September 24th
A truly unique experience, the Common Ground Fair has something for everyone! It is put on by MOFGA, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and offers a great look into rural Maine life. The fair offers demonstrations, guest speakers, exhibits, crafts, vendors, animals, and delicious food, all from Maine!

September 25th
We will pack up in the morning and head back to Portland, ME arriving at about 11AM.
