Itinerary
Day 1
We'll pick you up in Bangor, ME and drive to Cobscook Bay State Park to settle into our Basecamp for the week. Cobscook means “boiling tides” in the Passamaquoddy native language and the tidal range here is 24 feet! We’ll observe the dramatic tides coming and going while spotting eagles, seals and otters.
Day 2
Prepare yourself to be awed at every turn on this trail! The Cutler Coast is where the Bold Coast of Maine gets its name. Traverse through dense spruce and cedar forest carpeted with moss to sweeping views of rugged cliffs. Follow the coastline overlooking the Bay of Fundy past pebble beaches and unparalleled views. You might even spot a whale! Depending on the group's preference, a one day backpacking overnight may be included.
Day 3
Today we'll look for wildlife in Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. We'll do some light hiking along Cobscook Bay and try to time it so we can witness the Reversing Falls.
Day 4
Today we head as far East as you can go in Maine, to Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec. This state park features a beautiful lighthouse, scenic hikes along ocean cliffs and through a bog that features rare carnivorous plants like the sundew and pitcher plant! It's all a birding hotspot so be sure to scan the shoreline and rocks just off the coast.
Day 5
We take to the water today with some kayaking or a scenic boat tour. See the Bold Coast from a different perspective.
Day 6
We'll plan around the tides today as you can only reach unique Pulpit Rock at low tide. This shoreline hike is a beautiful stroll past sculpted red rocks. You'll see osprey coming and going from their nests as well as other shore birds. We'll also take in Shackford State Park and the town of Eastport.
Day 7
We'll take in on last glimpse of Cobscook Bay before packing up camp and heading back to Bangor to leave the Bold Coast of Maine behind. Depending on our timing, we'll have one last adventure on our way.
