Itinerary
Day 1
Our Maine Mountains and Coast tour begins in Portland and our first journey takes us to the Western Mountains of Maine. The small mountain town of Bethel will be our basecamp for the first 2 nights. We’ll get settled into our campground and enjoy a cookout and campfire.
Day 2
Spend the morning kayaking on a quiet lake. We'll look for eagles and loons as we paddle several small lakes before enjoying a picnic lunch along the shore. The afternoon takes us hiking in the mountains! Grafton Notch State Park has several wonderful trails including a section of the Appalachain Trail. This is moose country, so we'll be on the look out for these majestic creatures.
Day 3
In the morning we will pack up camp and head across the state to Acadia National Park. If time allows, we'll take in a few hikes before setting up our site for the next 3 nights. A five minute walk takes you right down to the ocean!
Day 4
Our day will start out at Sand Beach in Acadia where there are multiple options for hiking. Stroll along the Ocean Path and find a spot to gaze out at the vast ocean. For a bit more of a challenge, hike the Beehives or Gorham Mountain and Great Head Peninsula.
Day 5
Experience Acadia by boat, bike or hiking today. Your choice! We’ll set you up with a boat tour, bike rental or kayaking tour. Acadia is home to dozens of miles of old Carriage Roads perfect for biking. Kayaking around the Porcupine Islands offers views of Bar Harbor and Frenchmen’s Bay. Or, hop on the free park shuttle and take in another hike. There are still dozens more we could recommend! We’ll dine out tonight in one of the many fine restaurants in Bar Harbor.
Day 6
In the morning we’ll head to the mid-coast area of Maine to Camden Hills State Park. Take in the views of Penobscot Harbor from Mt Battie which includes the village of Camden and on a clear day, Acadia! Visit Owl’s Head Lighthouse and walk the Rockland Breakwater, a unique stone jetty that juts out a mile into the Atlantic Ocean! We’ll camp in Camden Hills State Park near the ocean for the next two nights.
Day 7
It’s an early start today as we try and catch sunrise over Penobscott Bay right from our campground. Next we’ll take a ferry out to the truly unique Monhegan Island. Spend your day hiking, visiting galleries, or taking in the beautiful views of this enchanting island!
Day 8
We will pack up in the morning and head back to Portland, ME arriving at about 11AM.
