127 Hours by Aron Ralston

Perhaps you’ve seen the recent Hollywood production of 127 Hours, the story of the climber who spent over 5 days trapped in a slot canyon in Utah and had to cut off his own arm, rappel 70 feet and hike 7 miles in order to survive.

While we very much enjoyed the movie, and felt that it did a great job of representing the beauty and remoteness of the greater Moab area, we also highly recommend reading Aron’s personal account of the event.

What you’ll come to understand after reading 127 Hours, (formerly titled Between a Rock and a Hard Place) is that Aron was an extremely qualified climber. Having soloed all 59 of Colorado’s Fourteeners, 45 of them solo in winter, climbed Mt Rainier, survived deadly avalanches and countless other near death experiences, and a former member of search and rescue. There are not many people on earth that could have endured the days of solitude, dehydration, malnutrition, and pain and still have the fortitude and mental capacity to do what he needed to do.

Aron’s story is a good lesson in remembering to tell people where you go, but it is also a reminder of the incredible power of the human spirit. You’ll be inspired by his courage, bravery, sense of adventure, and the love of his family and friends.

Thanks for sharing your powerful story, Aron!
