Black Hills and Badlands
Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, Custer State Park,
Jewel Cave
A one week national parks adventure offered July 17-24
Hiking, swimming, wildlife, gold panning, native culture, and more!
This trip is good for all physical levels/abilities.
The Black Hills and Badlands region of South Dakota is sacred to the Lakota Sioux because of its beauty and diversity. We think you'll be awed by the stark but colorful beauty of the Badlands, the uniqueness of Devils Tower and Jewel Cave, inspired by the spirit and dedication of the local people, and entertained by the wild west atmosphere.  We'll camp every night, (no night drives) and spend 3-4 nights in the same campground in Custer State Park. After this tour, we head straight to Glacier!

Price: $965
Returning guest: $695

Day 1
Depart Rapid City, SD
We start this fantastic trip by picking up you and your fellow Adventurers in Rapid City, SD.
We'll prep you for your adventure and then enjoy a comfortable journey  and a beautiful sunset in our first national park...
Day 2
Badlands National Park
The changing colors at sunrise and sunset are just the beginning of what this unique park has to offer. The colorful eroded formations are surrounded by vast prairie lands. Bison, prairie dogs and maybe even a black-footed ferret are among the wildlife you can encounter here. We'll hike through the hoodoo like peaks and valleys before heading to Deadwood for dinner in the stomping grounds of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.   Hiking 1-6 miles

Day 3
Devils Tower National Monument
We all remember the mashed potato model of this monolith in that Richard Dreyfuss made in Close Encounters, but let us assure you, it pales in comparison to the real thing! Just how was this 867 foot formation created? The local native myth suggests it was clawed by a bear. Discover for yourself how it was created on one of the wooded trails that surround the monument.
Hiking 1-8 miles

Day 4
Mt Rushmore National Memorial
Crazy Horse Monument
Mt Rushmore is the ultimate memorial to our nation. Discover the history of how this manmade feat came to be. In the afternoon we'll visit Crazy Horse Monument and discover the story of two incredible men, Chief Crazy Horse and sculptor Korczak. You'll be inspired by the beautiful scenery and their dedication and perseverance, as well as that of the local native people, the Lakota Sioux.
Hiking 1-2 miles

Day 5 and 6
Custer State Park
Custer State Park is the heart of the Black Hills. We'll spend 2 days exploring its unique rock formations and beautiful mountain lakes. Wild life sightings may include bison, big horn sheep, deer, bear, and more. One of the highlights will be hiking Harny Peak, the tallest mountain in South Dakota at 7,244 ft. The views from the top are stunning.
Hiking 1-8 miles

Day 7
Jewel Cave National Monument
Jewel Cave is the world's second longest cave at 146.88 miles! Take one of the many tours offered and explore the unique calcite crystal formations, or, if you are not into "spelunking", hike one of the many trails like Hell Canyon or Lithograph Canyon.
